Soros Foundation-Kazakhstan (SFK) is a Kazakhstani non-governmental charity organization established by the Open Society Institute (OSI) in 1995 to advance values of the open society in Kazakhstan.
Priorities:
- Promote public policies to safeguard fundamental human rights;
- Ensure budget transparency and accountability;
- Increase social activism and tolerance within society.
In order to implement its strategy goals and objectives, Soros Foundation-Kazakhstan receives grants from the Open Society Institute (OSI) and the Foundation Open Society Institute (FOSI) as well as from other donors.
Since 1995, SFK has granted $100 million to promote civil-society initiatives in Kazakhstan, which include a whole range of areas from HIV/AIDS prevention programs to a variety of educational programs, aimed to enhance the skills for critical thinking and public debate.
